Economics Empowerment & Development

Refugees and Under-Served Communities in Ethiopia and South Sudan border

The displaced people, refugees, and local hosting communities in western Ethiopia and South Sudan border lack any transportation services or infrastructures, economic system, financial education, and micro-businesses. These are basic essentials to have a healthy and prosperous community. Currently there are no transportation services i.e. cars or vehicles that can take people and goods from point A to point B,  jobs, skill development, education, healthcare, food systems to speak of. These people lack access to clean drinking water which quickly leads to disease and death. These conditions severely limit their capacity to work and be productive. Transportation services are nonexistent making movement of goods, services, and people very difficult and expensive. ASDF understands that clean water is the foundation to health, disease prevention, and the ability to work. ASDF plans to start with water sanitation and then build from there. Once the water sanitation issue is addressed our Economic program strategy will begin and have six components:
  • Build a base of financial education through training, conferences, and forums.
  • Establish and develop a micro-finance program.
  • Establish and develop transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Establish and develop commerce & entrepreneurship education.
  • Establish and develop nutritional education and agricultural farms.
  • Support local farmers through the start-up of farms.

Here are some of the initiatives we are planning to execute 2018-2019

  • Fall of 2018- we will send a team of professional healthcare and volunteers to the region to take the medical items, supplies, medications and conduct trainings in the region. While there, they will do the following:
  • Provide treatments, medical supplies, equipment and medical services.
  • Create Awareness about health awareness (HIV AIDs, Malaria, Typhoid, Cholera, etc).
  • Provide trainings on general health awareness, how to use water filters and water pumps, and reassess healthcare priorities as we plan to develop clinic in 2019.
  • Develop partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, groups, foundations, and donors
  • Provide treatments, medical supplies, equipment and medical services.
